Usher, who is known for his way-too-catchy songs, is more than just a pretty face and Justin Bieber’s mentor. The singer founded a non-profit organization, called Usher’s New Look, which is dedicated to building future leaders, and the organization is set to host the President’s Circle Awards Luncheon on July 17, 2013 in Atlanta.
The luncheon’s theme is “Honoring Leadership and Service Through Collaboration,” and is an opportunity for members of the community as well as Usher’s New Look’s supporters to gather and recognize four powerful leaders, who are being commended for empowering youth.
The luncheon will feature an awards ceremony presented by Usher himself, and New Look youth leaders will perform a rendition of Collective Soul’s song “The World I Know” with luncheon honoree Ed Roland.
The four awards being given out are the Global Youth Leadership Award, the Service Legacy Award, the Youth Catalyst Award, and the Servant Leadership Award. They will be given to, respectively, New Look Youth Leader Nadji Jeter for mentor and role model work; The Coca-Cola Foundation for its global impact on the lives of youth; Ed Roland for his work with First Tee, Ron Clark Academy, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers, and more organizations; and Julie Miller, who is being presented an award for providing resources, tools, and support for young people to work on service projects.
Usher said of the luncheon, “We are thrilled to honor and recognize four individuals who understand the importance of motivating and inspiring youth to succeed.”
Usher’s New Look was founded in 1999 and has trained and certified over 13,000 youth across four leadership pillars: talent, education, career, and service. New Look’s participants have a 100% high school graduation rate, and the program is geared toward the success of young people.
