Ghost shows are all the rage these days, whether they’re fictional programs like Medium and Ghost Whisperer or reality-based programs like Paranormal Witness and Ghost Adventures. Now comes news that Jack Black will spoof the popular genre with Ghost Ghirls, a new web series headed to Yahoo! this fall.
Produced by Jack Black, who also stars in the comedy, Ghost Ghirls follows the adventures of two inept ghost hunters. Co-creators Amanda Lund and Maria Blasucci also star in the series which features cameo appearances by Dave Grohl, Val Kilmer, Jake Johnson, Molly Shannon, and Jason Schwartzman. Episodes of Ghost Ghirls debuted at the South by Southwest Film Festival last March, and Comic-Con attendees will also get a sneak peek at the new series.
“The Ghost Ghirls creators are a rare breed,” said Erica Bello, Director of Scripted Television, Shine America. “They are exceptional writers and actors with a fresh comedic tone that is both funny and surprising. We are so excited to give Comic-Con fans a sneak peek of this hilarious series before the rest of the world can see it this fall.”
Black, Lund, Blasucci, Ghost Ghirls director/creator Jeremy Konner, and Erin McPherson, VP & Head of Video at Yahoo! will participate in a Ghost Ghirls Comic-Con panel session on July 18. It will be Black’s first Comic-Con appearance in eight years.
“We heard that Comic-Con is haunted. Never fear, The Ghost Ghirls are on the way,” Black joked.
